Choosing the Best RV Location

The beauty of living in an RV is that it grants you the freedom to get picky about where home is. Plenty of people go into purchasing an RV with aspirations of living in a rainforest, or maybe a secluded mountain range. However, not only are these dreams impractical – they’re usually illegal.

You might have loved that family road trip to Yosemite, but any kind of prolonged stay at a national park is often illegal. As beautiful as they are, the hard limit across every national park, landmark, or otherwise is 14 days. Public streets are also off-limits, unfortunately, as many homeowners would rather not have strangers living a few steps away from their doorstep.

That being said, there are still plenty of places to park your RV.

The most obvious choice would be, of course, at an RV park. Staying at one of these will run you anywhere from $500 to $1200 per month, but you’ll be supplied with an electrical hookup and other necessities such as water, sewage, and peace of mind knowing that you are surrounded by an RV-loving community.

For the more adventurous type, there’s always the option of boondocking. While national parks ban any kind of dispersed camping, national forests are much more lenient about this encouraging Americans to explore and experience the outdoors. It’s always a good idea to double check specific locations for any seasonal restrictions and fire warnings beforehand, but
national forests can serve as a beautiful change of pace away from the world and towards a wilder life.

Most Walmart parking lots have no qualms about RV owners, but each Walmart’s policies vary drastically. Some will let you stay as long as you’d like, while others will want your RV gone first thing in the morning. Although you’ll always be in range of food and equipment, living at any Walmart is risky business and often not worth the hassle.

If you already own a home, the best place for your RV will always be your backyard. While it may not seem like the most exciting spot when compared to the previous options, parking at home will always guarantee you and your family a greater safety than anywhere else.

No matter where your RV adventures take you, rest assured that we at RV Towing & Repair will make your vehicle’s journey as smooth as possible –– to the rainforest or otherwise.
